Canada Thanksgiving

We should be giving thanks to God everyday in our prayers. I feel it is still a positive that our country sets aside a day for that even if many don't recognize that. I also think it's healthy as a county to have holidays throughout the year for family and friends to gather and it's wonderful to have this one about giving thanks to God.

yaaaaa dc I just want to eat

Thanks to all of you, eh?

We keep Thanksgiving as a day for family to come together and say out loud how thankful we are for what we have and where we are. It's not that we're not grateful all year long, but this is just a day to share. I agree with Maddie. If it's all just gluttony and football it's not worth celebrating. I can also see how it would be offensive to many.

After dinner Amy and I went to the shelter to wash dishes. It's not much, but we do it every year because we want to share.

I quite agree. I am attracted to it because of the message of being thankful and the idea of family and friends coming together. Those are the main reasons I like the sound of it, although any excuse for nice meal is always welcome too!

I love Thanksgiving. I just do. I got a million happy memories all around it from even when I lived in Georgia and my mom was still alive. It isn't about the food but I do like the pudding pies I admit but its all about being together and just being happy for all the wonderful people God put together with us. With my mom and dad now I like all the stuff even that leads up to it like helping put together Thanksgiving food baskets. I like to how my mom and dad give us an envelope and piece of paper on the first day in November and each day we got to write one thing about someone in our life we are grateful about. We can show them on Thanksgiving is we want but we don't got to. I just really really really love all the happy feelings that are all around Thanksgiving and you know the happiest feelings we get come when we help somebody and appreciate what somebody does for us.

I know terrible stuff got done to Native Americans and I wish it didn't happen and this is mostly why I wish we would do something other than Columbus day but I had a friend who is part Cherokee and she used to celebrate Thanksgiving but in the same way my family does it you know, just the being grateful for what blessings we have.

In Europe they celebrate all 12 days (and beyond). In America people start decorating in mid october (exaggerating slightly) and are ready to be done with it after the first day, because we seem to like our big, explosive, gaudy, one day celebrations.

I'm in no way attacking you or your family or any specific family.

But generically speaking, nationally, as a holiday, I'm not a fan.

I don't understand how anyone can not like Thanksgiving.

Because it's all a lie given out to make the white people look good? They destroyed my people, literally. Brought blankets with small pox, kidnapped and raped an 11 year old Pocahontas and Disney turned it into a love story. Please research what has been done to the Native Americans

I don't want to celebrate the pilgrims on Thanksgiving. I think it should be a celebration of good food and family. That's what I like about Thanksgiving, is the food and family. And for religious people, it can also be a day to give thanks to God.

I don't know anyone in this day and politically correct climate who actually celebrates Thanksgiving in the traditional context. I think, for most, it has simply become a day to celebrate family and to acknowledge the many blessings we have been given. Thanksgiving is a holiday celebrated in many places and not simply the USA (or Canada) with the central theme of gratitude.

Maybe I will find a way to celebrate it when it comes round in the US next month.
