France "spanked" for not banning spanking by EU.

I thought spanking was still legal in Great Britain.

Yeah that bit confused me. The organization that filed the complaint is UK based but it filed it against France (home to the martinet that is used for "dusting").

CP is still legal in the UK (and even the mayor of London thinks parents should have more leeway in how they spank their kids - RELATED ARTICLE). The organization that filed the complaint is London-based, interestingly enough, but as with many groups that feel that it is their "duty" to infringe on the rights of parents and families, they obviously don't consider any territorial boundaries when trying to force their agenda on an unwilling public. Good for France! (in this case, at least... )

Hi All
As far as I am informed - which may well be out of date or plain incorrect. Under the 2004 Children's Act of Great Britain - I am not sure if it applies or not to Scotland at this time. It is legal to smack with hand only - all / any of the usual ( and less common ) implements are illegal. This article might be to do with a martinet ( pronounced ' martin-aay ' ( but you knew that ) ) - being an implement. A martinet being a strip of robust plain leather attached to a - usually - wooden handle at one end ( but then I guess you knew that too ) Regards - B.S.

In Canada it is still legal with some restrictions. (Though our child welfare authorities may try to convince you otherwise!)
