Teen forced to live in woods after eating a pop tart

I read about this case on NZ news site yesterday. I did a Google search and here is a link to the article in USA Today.

It seems a bit extreme to banish a child for eating a Pop-Tart. I'm not sure if she stole the Pop-Tart or is not allowed to eat Pop-Tarts. I feel there is more to this story.

I don't actually have a problem with a teen being told to sleep in a tent as a punishment but I think a week is too long and it should be done safely, like as soon as there is a thunderstorm they should be brought back inside.

Aunty sent Jono and I on an outdoor adventure camp when I was 10 (was really a boot camp). They used similar punishments. Misbehaving boys slept outdoors as oppose to inside the hall but you were monitored.

The confederate flag should be taken down and put in a museum. But taking the Dukes of Hazzard off of television is going way too far. There was nothing even remotely racist about that show.

As for the 14 year old girl who was banished to the woods for eating a Pop-Tart, she needs to be taken away from her abusive parents. Personally, I think the whole world is going mad.

I agree. This can only be described as abuse.

What is so awful about eating a pop tart? I've never had one myself, and assume they are targeted at young people. But are they worse than many other junk foods aimed at the same age group? I'm puzzled!

I think eating a pop tart is a form of punishment in and of itself! LOL

The reason I think it should be taken down is because most African-Americans are offended by the Confederate flag. It doesn't offend me. To me, the Confederate flag represents heritage not hate. I'm from Tennessee, and my great grandfather fought on the Confederate side during the Civil War. But we need to consider everyone else's feelings. Obviously, that flag really offends a lot of people. That's why I believe it should be taken down. It can still fly on private property, but not at the courthouse.

I used to love pop tarts when I was a kid.
