Trap shooting
So I thought I would give my daughter a little praise here. For the past 2 years now she has been involved with junior league trap shooting, trap shooting clubs, and a couple weekends ago placed second in her class. It may be a little surprising hear of a girl being involved in such a sport, but she loves it. When she first said she wanted to do this, I wanted to say no, I'm not against guns, but really didn't want my daughter involved with them. My brother who is an avid hunter and trap shooter himself got her interested and started in the sport. This competition was her third one but this was her best finish. She has also now gone out hunting a few times with her uncle. On a side note, I am so happy my brother has taken it upon himself to be such a great male influence in her life.

RE: Trap shooting
Wow that is interesting. I remember the first time I fired a gun at 12. My parents had me fearing them so much I cried when I shot. It took a scout leader who was next to me to tell me to keep shooting because he shot my target. After the first shock of firing a gun I was much better.

She never had a fear, but the first time she went shooting with my brother came back with a bruised shoulder, she has since learned how to properly hold the gun.

Where are you from Sven? Here in the United States a lot of people take their right to own a gun very seriously. Right now there is a lot of argument over it though. Like I said I wasn't all too excited about her shooting, but it allowed her have something in common with her uncle, who is the male figure in her life.

I have a rifle and go hunting with my dad, grandpa, uncles, and cousins. My mom has gone too, but just hasn't the last few years. We eat everything we shoot and don't waste anything.

We also have rifles in the house because of the coyotes, wolves, bears, and even cougars that are around here on the farm. We don't usually get many bears and we get even less cougars, but we have had all of them in the past. We get a lot of coyotes mostly. Angry The guns are locked up away from the little kids and my parents are SUPER strict on gun safety, like REALLY make sure we all know about it and the rules. I am NEVER allowed to handle my gun without an adult that has permission to help me unless it is a TRUE emergency with a wild animal on the farm.

Gun safety is of utmost importance, her gun isn't even kept her, rather at her uncles home who keeps it locked up for her.

RE: Trap shooting
That is very neat Rachael, thanks for sharing! I have actually never shot a gun in my life, but have a male friend that trap shoots and says it is a blast. He also mentioned that there are several female trap shooters the range (or whatever your call it) that he goes to.

I have shot guns before but it's not something I like doing. Hope is actually the only girl in her club. There are some women who shoot though and they have taken her in hand as well. Her uncle and the other guys are all very supportive of her.

RE: Trap shooting
Good to hear she is doing well at the range. I have shot a rifle a few times, but I do not live in an apartment that allows weapons right now.

RE: Trap shooting
I got to go deer hunting during the juvenile hunt. It was my first time while I didn't get a deer I did enjoy it and can't wait to go back.
