Kid's friend gets spanked
This article or link below reminded me of the time my nephew was spanked while we were on a long trip and we had stopped in a motel room along the way. His mom spanked him in a small bathroom, while I was in the motel room with his friend that came along with us. As in the article, my nephew's friend didn't have much reaction either, as his options might've been after-all limited while we were on a long trip or he was too preoccupied with the TV that was on.

RE: Kid's friend gets spanked
I read the article again, my first thought is that the fact that the boy remained calm might have been over emphasized, as he didn’t have much other choice if he wanted to continue his sleepover.
And kids probably get spanked with siblings or others nearby anyway in many cases.

The way I understand the article, the main point is not the spanking but that kids can get so absorbed with playing minecraft that they ignore everything else. For me the over emphasizing was part of the joke.

It’s a (fictional) parody about kids spending too much time in front of screens. The “spanking” was an ancillary literary device to make the author’s point. It’s a low-rent version of The Onion.

I’ll agree with this statement, put Minecraft, as in the article, or a TV, as in my nephews friend’s case, in front of a kid, then they seem to be able to block out everything else around them, including whether someone is in trouble

Had to look it up too: The Onion is a website with satirical news articles.

RE: Kid's friend gets spanked
I didn’t know much about the onion before. My nephew was in a similar situation when he was spanked with his friend nearby 3 years ago is what caught my attention in the article. The one not being punished seemed content with the electronic preoccupation in both cases.
