I do think this is a bit unfortunate; it indicates a breakdown of society in some ways, IMHO. The nuclear family should not be isolated or at odds with the rest of the world.

I am sorry for bothering you, but could you explain what you mean with this? Most of the time I am able to understand english just fine, but even after I looked up the term "nuclear family" I am unable to apprehend what you are trying to say.

Sorry; the family with mother+father+children; not including grandparents, uncles, etc. This group has tended to become more isolated over time, but it should not be. Children should be interacting with the rest of society, and parents should be able to expect support from other members of society as well as the rest of the extended family.

I agree with Garth. We actually live much of the year with our son and now TWO grandchildren., ages 5 (almost) and infant. And yes, for those curious, the five year old grandson does get spanked in much the same way we spanked our sons.

Thank you for the explanation. I agree with your statement about the isolation of the nuclear family, but I am not sure how the poll illustrates an breakdown in society or contributes to said isolation?

It indicates that parents are reluctant to allow others to support them in disciplining their children to a new and remarkable degree.
