Offences away from home....help!
#1
I have taken the opportunity of a funded trip to a conference to take the boys away: they have been on a course at the sailing club.
The city in which we stayed has an excellent department store with a brilliant school uniform section from from which we have bought generic uniform before.
My nearly-fourteen-going-on-four year old had a total meltdown in the store which caused embarrassment to him, to me, and to the assistant.
After a long cooling off time, I promised him we would have our conversation on our return home (Wednesday).
I would unequivocally have paddled for that, but suspect that the moment will have passed in three days.
Anyone else had a similar one? If so, how did you resolve it?
Thanks,
Henry

Well it depends on him and indeed you but I have had spankings put on hold at his age for a few days. Its not pleasant to have it hanging over you but neither is publicly embarrassing your parents

A meltdown ? That would have been the worst wait ever knowing what Dad would do to me for that .

If it is a fun trip, is it possible to exclude him from certain activities such as not going to an amusement park?

This would be my approach as an immediate step. After that, when you return home really depends on what is custom and practice and how bad it actually was in the cold light of day.

Maybe since it is a fun vacation you should just say ok dont do it again and let him go to the amusement park with you he might really want to go to the amusement park it might be the best part of the vacation, for him. Then you will have made him happy he will be good the rest of the time.

If the children were with me I spanked them right away. The longest I might have to wait is perhaps an hour or two if we were out somewhere. I also spanked sometimes if they misbehaved between visits. This meant they might wait up to a week to be spanked. As the children were older they could easily remember why they were being spanked even if their misbehaviour occurred a few days ago.

So you’re suggesting he not be punished for his behavior? I don’t think that will discourage a repeat offense.

I would spank him even if away from home.

I get spanked in the most private spot immediately available. On rare occasion that’s been not all that private at all, just the best spot that was possible where we were. It stinks, but I know that going in. And it means things don’t hang over one’s head.

That’s sad where you live impacts this. Living in rural Louisiana (or visiting my moms family in traditional Basque Country) Makes some things more possible than if we were in, say, Massachusetts or Holland.
