I disagree with the term "whipping" because it implies the individual used a whip on his son. Apparently he used a switch. To me a switch is not a whip. I realize the nitpicking of words doesn't change the facts buthow people view the story can be influenced IMO.

I agree. I think the best word for a spanking is simply that "a spanking". However when a spanking has gone to far and caused injury than it is child abuse as far as I am concerned.

I didn't see the pictures of the child... And I'm not trying to justify this man's actions. I was more quibbling with the article's wording. I'm not sure how I feel about the sentence but then I don't have all of the info before me.

Thanks Mike, I'll do a search later on to read the original article.

Adequate punishment musn't ever draw blood from the child. If skin is broken it crosses the element of child abuse. That's an absolute boundary in my records.

I agree with Mike's response.

I too saw the article and some of the pictures regarding this issue, and it was by no means "a mere spanking."

As Garth had mentioned, a switch in itself, if conducted properly, could be used safely as a spanking implement, in this case it was not. It went way over board and deserves legal consequences.
