Christian Trolling
#1
Social media:
If you love Jesus like and share.
If you like and share you will receive blessings from above.

Anyone actually pay attention to this crap on their social media?

My "aunt's" timeline has a million of these types of posts. Christian social media chain letters. Rolleyes

A few Sundays ago, in virtual young adult's group we talked about how a Christian should treat a troll and I found it an interesting topic but since then I've been looking for ways that Christian's troll people and I think these posts are the same as trolling. What say you?

I say they are extremely annoying and you should delete them. That's coming from a Christian.

I really detest any of those emotional blackmail sorts of posts. It's a good sign that I need to unfollow someone who posts it. Whether it's "prosperity gospel" nonsense or "show what a great Christian you are", it burns me up.

The Gospel According to Matthew Wrote:Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

I guess I don't understand what a troll is cause I think them messages are annoying but I didn't think of them as being trolling. I was thinking trolling is more like bullying online or something.

What is Matthew meaning when he said that about babbling? Don't God want us to be annoying and talk to him all the time?
Maybe God just got sick of me and my talking all the time about stuff that isn't even important. He got tired of it and said enough Roseanna go talk to somebody else.

Not sure if you're being serious or just poking fun at yourself here. Hopefully it's the latter and not the former.

But I think of babbling like TV evangelists who offer up 5-minute prayers filled with fluffy repetitive language. Not someone who is earnestly trying to speak to God, but someone who it talking just to hear themselves talk (or so that others can hear them talk).

I was kind of being serious only I guess its a stupid thing to say and I should of said to act as if until it is or something. Confused
So Matthew was mostly talking about empty kind of prayer thats got no meaning behind it and not somebody telling him all the dumb stuff about the day. All I got to share with God is the dumb stuff cause there isn't a thing spectacular about me or my life. I'm ordinary so he is stuck with annoyingly ordinary stuff from me. I figure its that way with most of the people since we can't all be Justin Bieber or something.
My dad sometimes calls me rambling Rosie and I was sort of wondering if Matthew was meaning to not be like that with God you know. I don't know.

I wonder if the person who is responsible for my getting one of those silly posts believes it and if they do, I pity them. I suspect God has far more important things to do than to see who does or does not share such messages.
Addy, I never looked at it as trolling but it is a form of trolling, lazy trolling. It requires zero effort so it is the message of the lazy troll.
Rosie, I think Vinita is spot on with her understanding of babble. I think God enjoys the ramblings of his Rosie or any of his children.

Haha....the holier than thou brigade. They don't bother me one little bit....I reckon someone has to save all the little demons in the world....and it's too much fun being one to worry about getting rid of them. Tongue
What makes me angry are the trolls who pretend to be Christians and leave others questioning their own faith......I'm sure there's a special place in Hell for them.

I often answer the door to Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, etc., etc.
I usually invite them in.
I believe it is my mission to convert them to Trinitarian, traditional Christianity. Sadly many of them have been taught certain verses of Scripture 'parrot fashion' but have no consistent hermeneutic approach. Scriptural snippets are taken completely out of context.
Contextual theology isn't just applying ancient writings to today, it is also considering the context in which they were written...
Who wrote them?
For whom?
What was the purpose?
What were the background 'norms' for the intended readership?
Etc.

I've learned to be very suspicious of Christians who like to preach and that has been reinforced lately by events with my daughter. One thing that is for certain, if you dare me to repost something, I'm not going to. It's that simple.
