The pictures don't seem as serious as she suggests. I think she is overreacting quite a bit here; I wonder if there is a real debate on this issue up there or not.

Many, if not most, counties in Tennessee have abolished corporal punishment in public schools.

Makes no sense . She gave permission to paddle him for late Hw and now's mad cause his butt is blistered ???
What did she think his butt would look like after being hit with a board ?

Yes, I agree.

Interesting; so this may be an area where public opinion has shifted in that direction, even in the upper south.

I agree, Anymouse. From what we can see, his bottom does not look like it was excessive to me, and it is apparently legal there, and mom gave her permission. I too think she is overreacting. I am not sure that I agree with the the message that she is sending to her son, reacting this way, and allowing him to stay home from school now...

She gave permission for her son to be paddled and he was paddled as per the policy. I'm curious as to how many of the Facebook comments would have actually be on her side.

What age? I am guessing about 12? Looks like he had a pretty hard spanking, I think as a parent I would be upset too at the degree of redness etc, it looks excessive.

But we don't know why the work was late, there may be more to this. Perhaps this case demonstrates that what might be viewed as okay at home is not at school.

She is over reacting for sure. Sad to see such attitudes in our state. My kids go to church school and while the school does not use corporal punishment it is very pro spankings.

Yes, it seems so.

An unfortunate number at least on the news station's post, and also on hers.

There is unfortunately an attitude inculcated which states that parents are forbidden from giving a hard paddling; not sure where that idea comes from in Tennessee, but it may be incorrect in Macon County.

There are even some spectacular comments from "non-violent-parents" like this:
