I think it matters if the "expert" is a parent or not. Someone who is not a parent really can't understand how a parent feels. They can't really understand why a parent can't sleep until their teenager is home from a date. They can't understand how a parent feels when their child in a moment of anger tells them she hates her. They can't understand how a parent can so love a child that they'll do anything to help them even if it's something they don't want to do. They'll never understand how a parent always places their child first in all things. To them it's all theory and many things work wonderfully in theory. As I said the other day, according to theory bumble bees can't fly.

Exactly this right here. Until someone has a child, I don't want to hear what I should or shouldn't be doing. You cannot possibly know what it is like to have your heart walking outside your body. So until somebody knows what it is like to have child be your first thought in the morning and your last thought at night, don't tell me how you think I should raise my child.

The world is full of experts. We've come to a time where it seems as if everyday experience doesn't count for anything. If I am looking for advise on raising my children I am going to look to another mum for her wisdom. Keep your experts. I am going to trust the one who knows what it is like to change a nappy and be peed on while doing it, the mum who is up all night with a sick child, the mum who is at the end of her rope with a naughty one who is chucking a wobbly in the middle of Woolworths. I'll take the wisdom gained from life experience, thank you.

So it is official like and nobody is going to tell the moms what to do. Big Grin

RE: The Forgotten Part of Discipline - Addy - 11-25-2020

Hey how about we try that attitude too? No-one is going to tell me what to do. Big Grin

I can imagine what kind of reception that would get from the moms on this forum sooooooo.......Addy you go first. Tongue

RE: The Forgotten Part of Discipline - Nancy - 11-25-2020

Girls, one of the main reasons parents join a group like this is to find other parents that can see the difference between a spanking and abuse. Here you can say that you spank without having to look over your shoulder first to see who's listening.

RE: The Forgotten Part of Discipline - Rosie - 11-25-2020

You know for teens to is we can talk about it and not get made fun of or something like that. Mostly you know we was poking fun at you moms for not listening to all the experts and doing what you think is best and so nobody is going to tell you how to raise your kids.

RE: The Forgotten Part of Discipline - Nancy - 11-25-2020

The other way to look at it is that the moms ARE the real experts and base our conclusions on practical results not theory. Big Grin

RE: The Forgotten Part of Discipline - Rosie - 11-25-2020

I sort of agree with that.
