Today I helped set up Thanksgiving baskets at my church. They'll be delivered to homes after Mass tomorrow.
It's a real feel good activity until it wasn't.
I saw the list of families receiving the baskets, it wasn't intentional but it was sitting at the printer when I made a copy of something and so I saw it. I should have put it right down and not looked at it but I did.
Two of the families on the list are the families of girls I know from school. I know this is a hard time for a lot of people and my family has been so lucky because neither parent has lost their job and they own our home. The suffering of others has been some distant understanding for me until I saw their names.
Hunger and the dire situation so many people are in became personal to me today.
I know I can come across to people as an arrogant PITA turd....and maybe I am that sometimes.....but this is really, really bothering me.
I want to do more but what can I do? I don't want to embarrass them but I have so much and I can share that.
It's awful that people are hungry or homeless or alone. It shouldn't be like this.
