Pain And Salvation

“This light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

These verses are like sandpaper on our modern sentiments about pain. We naturally try to avoid pain at all costs. But God brings pain in our lives for the sake of our eternal joy — yes, even glory.”

I think there is some truth to the above conclusion. However pain is a relative thing. If you spank your child I think it is important to know just what is the right amount of pain that is necessary to bring about your child’s transformation from a willful, disobedient child to a contrite, loving child. In other words an excessive amount of physical pain can cause your child to be hateful and rebellious were just the right amount of physical pain can bring about a loving, submissive relationship not only with you but more importantly with God.

You are a wise man Garth.
