He looked like he wasn't too sorry after all he got on TV! Gee what can I do to get on TV again?
I hope he got his bottom spanked as well but I bet he didn't.

He hadn't got spanked at least just before the TV show, he sat quite still and without any squirming all the time.

I saw this when ti first happened. I'm just glad no one was hurt... well except for his bottom possibly.
There were a couple of similar incidents after this one. In one, two kids drove their parents car to visit their grandmother. In another a boy took his dads truck 112 miles (on an interstate no less at night). If I recall correctly he'd been punished for failure to complete chores and was angry. I found these as well. 7 year old steals stepdads truck to visit dad Boy steals grandmother's car after fight with mother:

What I can't figure out is how a seven year old can reach the pedals and see out the front window at the same time. At my cottage I use to let the kids steer my car or truck while they sat on my lap. This of course was on private property and completely safe as I had complete control of the brake and gas pedal.
