This Date in History: Babe Ruth Calls His Shot
#1
84 years ago today, the great Babe Ruth stepped to the plate at Wrigley Field in Chicago during the 1932 World Series. The game was tied, 3-3, and fans in the outfield bleachers had been merciless in their taunts of The Babe, and what happens next is the stuff of legend. Ruth points to the outfield bleachers, then launches a tie-breaking home run on the next pitch. The Yankees go on to win the game, and the World Championship.

The debate over whether Ruth intended his point to the outfield to be "calling his shot," continues on, but regardless of his true motives, the resulting home run has gone down as one of the greatest and most memorable in history.
