Exodus

Today in Church the sermon was on Moses and his freeing of his people. Initially I wondered what this had to do with thanksgiving. Actually the story itself doesn't if taken literally. Being free has nothing to do with a relocation to the promised land of milk and honey. Freedom is not a place. God answered Moses question when he asked God who are you. And God answered "I am who I am". Now this is not the first time the question has been asked by spiritual teachers. Jesus referred to it as the kingdom of heaven that dwells within. Buddha said it was the emptiness or stillness, the inner peace and joy found within. The Tao said it was the unexplainable because it is the formless and timeless. Thus the journey Mosses was leading his people on was never to another land. It was the journey to look inward. This is the only truth that will make us free because we are It. We are all God's essence. And this we can be truely thankful for.
