Oh, dear. That is so sad, on so many levels.

It is sad. I hope they are tried as juveniles. Everyone deserves a second chance.

Mr Garth. It depends on how they are charged. If they are charged with 14 counts of murder then they will be charged as adults.

So sad and terrible
But accusing them as adults doesn't bring back the dead. It only destroys even more lives. I hope the prosecuors will decide wisely and not on public pressure. The task of courts is justice, not revenge.
My thoughts are with the familys of the victims, with all, who have lost a loved one in the terrible fire. But my thoughts are also with the two teenagers and their families. No matter what the court says, they have to live with the fact that they killed 14 people and injured about 100. Horrible!

Without knowing the circumstances of how it happened, I initially thought they should be charged as adults, but for me, it kind of depends on their age. For example, if these kids are only 11, 12, 13, then yeah, they were dumb, and not as mature, and maybe they should be charged as adults, but if they are 16 or 17 or something, then they are old enough and mature enough to know better than that.

Yes, agreed. Our local media often uses that ambiguity in headlines. There is a world of difference in a 13 year old versus a 19 year old. But both are "teenagers."
The teenagers are 15 and 17 and they are being charged with aggravated arson. A lot of people are upset with this ruling.

Here in Canada a child can not be charged as a juvenile until age 12. Before that age they are referred to Child Protection.

In Germany it's age 14 and in South Africa it's 10.
But there is rebuttable presumption that a child between 10 and 14 lacks criminal capacity.
