those pop up ads
#1
those pop up ads are annoying.
like the ones for IBTimes that launch a new browser playing a video.
i dont mind ads on the site and im sure they help pay for this,
but videos popping up whenever i do stuff on here is lame.
does every one else get these too or is it my browser settings?

Hi Ryan,

I wasn't aware of any pop-up ads at all with this forum. I think the only ads I notice are the single banners that run near the top of each page. I agree - pop-ups are an annoying presence no matter where you are surfing on the web. You're right about this being an ad-supported board. I'm not exactly tech-savvy, and this is the only forum builder that I have been able to figure out how to use LOL. Rolleyes But at least it fits in with my budget (FREE! Tongue).

I'm guessing there is something you can do about the pop-ups on your end. As John Boy stated, there is an ad blocking app available on Chrome. I use Firefox mostly, and there is pop-up blocker which I have engaged. Apparently it works pretty well, since I didn't know that createmybb3 forums include pop up advertising.

I'm not sure which browser you use, but you might want to check the settings and see what is available to you. If you don't have any luck on your own, reply here and let us know what browser you're on. Perhaps one of us using the same browser can assist you in reducing the ad clutter that this (and perhaps other) sites have been throwing at you. Undecided

If you use Safari there is a setting in security prefs to disable pop-up ads.

Ryan, if your parents will allow you, download and install adblock, it's what I use. I get no ads at all.

As I have found, many times if you have 3rd party apps, toolbars, or extensions installed you'll end up seeing pop-up ads that others (who don't have the same thing on their computer) don't see. So Ryan, I'd suggest you go and see what programs are installed on your computer (for Windows, that's in the Control Panel). Most of the time, they are little "free" programs that piggyback onto other Freeware that you download. But more than likely you have something installed on your machine that the rest of us don't. And programs that remove spyware, adware, etc will not remove extensions and toolbars (unless they are specifically deemed malicious). You have to uninstall or disable them one by one. Good lesson for all of us who like CNet and the other sites that offer "free" software...nearly all of those are ad-supported. So make sure when you're installing a new program that you pay attention to the installation steps. Almost 100% of the time you'll have an option NOT to install the crap that's bundled in with the program. Usually just requires checking or unchecking a box. I don't believe createmybb has pop-ups, so Ryan...time to clean up that dirty computer Wink

I don't even get banner ads. Dad download somethign called a hostfile which blocks almost every ad site and dangerous site out there. No ads here, on youtube, Facebook or anywhere.
