My daughter Amy graduated from high school today. She won the gold medal for first place standing in grade twelve and the Governor General's Medal for top place standing in the combined grades eleven and twelve. That's the top academic honour for Canadian high schools. Not all high schools even qualify to award it.
She has numerous scholarship offers to attend top level engineering schools and has been offered acceptance in a couple that don't have scholarship programs.
Amy has decided, on her own, to remain home for her first degree at our local university. She did her research and concluded that undergraduate degrees are very similar in all schools so she'd prefer to take a smaller step to start a long journey.
Needless to say, I am very proud of her.
