He's been in the house a couple of times when mom spanked me (before they were married). I'm a bit nervous about him being in charge now because he's been like a friend of the family so its like he's going from being my adult friend to my disciplinarian. But on the whole, it feels kind of natural/good to have a father figure in my life at the same time. Does that make sense?

Hi Maddie, thanks for answering and yes it does make sense that you look forward to having a father figure in your life. When we adopted our kids they were glad to have a mom and dad figure in their lives again. But before we adopted them we were their aunt and uncle and I always spoiled them, so when I became the disciplinarian they were nervous the first time that I had to discipline them, even though I had witnessed all of them at one time or another getting spanked by their dad. So I do understand how you feel.
Are you excited about being in Texas, are you scared your high school will use corporal punishment, I know some schools in Texas still do use the paddle. We live in Florida and my kids go to private school where spanking is used.

Not thrilled about the move to Texas, maybe I;'ll like it better than I think.

My school in rural Louisiana used the paddle too, though I think they use it even more in Texas. But that isn't my main reason for not wanting to move to Texas lol

Kaitie,

Congratulations on your marriage and now being a loving stepmom to Olivia! Sounds like wonderful news!

I saw where Maddie mentioned that she likes the idea of a father figure in her life. It sounds like this will be very healthy for her as well!

Again, congratulations!

Travis

It's someone I've known for a while, but it all happened a bit quicker than expected (partially because he got a promotion and was going to have to move away). It was a small ceremony because of COVID. In addition to being Maddie's mom, I'm now also step mom to a 13 year old girl named Olivia. My new husband is (1) abut 8 years older than me and (2) a widower. We will be moving to Texas in August.

Maddie, that makes complete sense! It sounds like it is already a good relationship and having a father figure it your life will be very beneficial.

Has your new step-dad or mom actually discussed the aspect of him providing you with discipline and how it will be done? I assume he has not spanked you yet?

Congratulations on gaining a step-sister as well!

Travis

Kaitie,

I also meant to ask, now that you are stepmom to Olivia, how do you feel about providing discipline to her when her dad is not around? Has that been discussed and all agreed upon?

Once again, congratulations!

I'm thinking about posting about this in the sunroom tomorrow. It's something I've found myself (maybe overly?) nervous about. Reminds me of the period when I first adopted Maddie when we were on the forum and I knew I needed to but I kept putting the first time off...

But yes, when he isn't around (which with his job when we get to Texas, he'll be traveling for chunks of time!) discipline is definitely on me!
