The Forgotten Part of Discipline
#41
I don't know if I would say the least amount of thought or effort. I have heard people say spanking is the lazy way out or something like that but mostly that would be for them parents who just slug and run. Tongue But mostly parents like I got there is a lot of talking and stuff to and they don't never slug and run.

No, you're right. I'm thinking more of the parents who do nothing but go to spanking. My aunt is close to that and I don't think she's a horrid person or a rotten parent but I think her always going to spanking is the easy way for her and so lazy.

Let me see if I am hearing you girls correctly, you are saying that just as there is no one size fits all parenting, there is no one size fits all in parenting and spanking is but one tool in a parent's toolbox. Am I correct? You feel relying on one tool because it is familiar and comfortable is the lazy way of parenting. I don't disagree with you but I think it is more complex than that.

Yes Rosie. That is something that is making me feel nervous is if a parent can't see any consequence besides spanking. That's when it starts to feel like a parent is LOOKING for reasons to spank and then I end up questioning their motives.
I do think it is lazy to have only one way of dealing with a kid doing something wrong. Eye rolling is a lot less severe than punching someone so you're going to tell me that you think a spanking is a valid consequence for both things and then expect that I'm not going to wonder what your motive is for spanking all the time?

Once again, younger members are going in the fetish direction. This is why I say the parents here who have willingly discussed this.....uncomfortable topic....are keeping us safe. I believe it's those forums that won't deal with the uncomfortable that should be avoided. Real, honest parents are open to all kinds of discussions....like the parents here are. I wish my sister had found this forum first, she would have been spared so much heartache.
One more time I have to pray it.....dear Lord if I am going to have a fetish PLEASE let it be for sexy underwear or shoes.

I've never subscribed to the spanking is the only punishment thing. Each kid is different and the punishment should not only match the crime but also the child. Some kids do respond well to spanking, and some kids don't. For us it has to be a fairly big deal or a repeated offense for a spanking to occur generally. Now I am human and sometimes when they're back talking I get fed up and will dish out a spanking, but that isn't a common thing.

I think every mum will experience those times when the backchat becomes a little more serious to us than it should be.
