Christian Trolling
#11
These sorts of posts (I mean the Troll Post copied here as an example of 'bad practice'), really irritate me, especially when they come from 'friends'. My advice is to ignore them, or if you are feeling bold send a complaint to the OP. Ignoring them does actually seem to work, as soon as the OP realises that people are not copying them and sending on, they tend to stop in my experience.

It's definitely not trolling (I have a narrower definition of that), but it is a bit annoying.

I usually invite them in.
I believe it is my mission to convert them to Trinitarian, traditional Christianity. Sadly many of them have been taught certain verses of Scripture 'parrot fashion' but have no consistent hermeneutic approach. Scriptural snippets are taken completely out of context.
Contextual theology isn't just applying ancient writings to today, it is also considering the context in which they were written...
Who wrote them?
For whom?
What was the purpose?
What were the background 'norms' for the intended readership?
Etc.

What does this all mean?
I don't have a religion so I am I guess searching you know? You use words I don't understand but what do you mean Trinitarian? Is that just another way of saying Trinity?

What is your definition of trolling cause I thought it must mean saying mean things or lying to somebody.
Do you think what happened to me with that lady who become a man is him being a troll? He wrote me and told me I'm not who I am cause of how I wrote something and so I thought he is calling me a troll when I'm nobody but me and he is the troll but maybe I just don't know what a troll really is.

I don't think what happened to you is trolling. I think trolling is a lot less personal than that. A troll would be someone who joined this forum to make anti-spanking posts or someone who joined to get people going because she's describing abusive practices and not parenting behavior. I figure those posts that tell you to repost or else is more like trolling because it is disruptive to the flow of something. What that person did to you Rosie, isn't attention seeking, it's cruel and more like sadistic behavior.

I don't know if that is to true but maybe it is. On that other place there was somebody who talked filthy dirty stuff to me in messenger and they said he was a troll so that was personal but just not for so long with the woMAN. I don't know.
But how are Christians supposed to treat trolls?

You have to be very careful who you talk to on the internet. Many people like to role play and are likely to have ulterior motives. To be sure you are talking to someone you can trust, trust your instincts and join sites you know are legitimate. Befriend only people you know on Facebook and if you have any suspicions about someone talk to your parents and see what they think. And of course never give out any personal information on the internet.

Garth gives you excellent advise about who to trust and who not to trust on the Internet. Your experience with the person on the RG forum is a difficult one. She seems very legitimate and has the support of other members on that forum. I wouldn't call her a troll, I think Garth called it right with role player. It is unfortunate that any adult would do this with a child. I don't know if this will comfort you at all but I have lodged a written complaint regarding that forum and I was given the name of two US senators to write to and I have done that as well. It is one thing to have a forum that entertains role players but you do not involve children and you are a child. The adults on that forum have failed to protect you and I have no doubt others as well and that is not okay.

I don't know if there is anything to be done about anything since maybe it is like free speech or something. I don't know. It is my own fault since I was the stupid one who believed everything she said so much that I sometimes still have the thought pop in my mind about something she would say about one of her kids but since she's not real there not real. I don't know. Its stupid so moving right along now. Blush

I like the question about how a Christian is supposed to treat a troll but nobody is answering it yet.
Are we supposed to be kind to the troll or since it isn't real do we just ignore it but there is a real person being a troll.
WHY do you think people troll? Why do people role play? None of it makes any good sense to me.

Who did you report the forum to? Should I be nervous about being on it? If there was ever an investigation I don't know anything. Confused I message with one person there and occasionally post but because of things I've learned here, I'm real careful with what I post now. I have to post there or they deleted the person.
