RE: Bullying
Nice Garth. Bullying is something I’m sure we’re all against. Probably 1 in 5 of us have been bullied, myself included.

RE: Bullying
Me too. I had a boy I looked after who was constantly being bullied. Later he was diagnosed as schizophrenic. Once I had to come to his rescue at a swimming pool as a bigger boy was pushing him around. I unfortunately did not respond very appropriately by threatening the bully. As a child I was bullied and bullied other kids. It was just part of growing up. It has taken me a long time to see the goodness in others no matter their behaviour.

RE: Bullying
I guess bullying is something of all era's, every single on of us has experienced it in some way or another.
I try to emphasize the uniqueness of all creatures to my children, and the importance of every role one can have in life. Guess for me that's the start of doing something about it.

RE: Bullying
Bullying is unacceptable in any circumstances. As a teacher, it was something we clamped down on very strictly as it has the potential to make life very difficult for other children

RE: Bullying
Bullying is definitely unacceptable. I was bullied by a kid much smaller than I he just had my number, I guess. I moved away from that neighborhood, met some new friends and realized I was foolish to be pushed around by this kid. I went back to my old neighborhood to visit my old friends. We were playing a game of tackle football. I was on the opposite side of the kid who bullied me all those years. I was 15 when we moved. As we played, I intentionally knocked him to the ground every chance I had. I was hoping he would come after me again. I had every intention of literally beating him to death and I would have had he started a fight. Fortunately, he was smart enough to get away and distance himself from me. The rage I had inside, I would have beat him senseless. So, I guess it worked out OK for both of us. There is one way to bully proof your kids. Sign them up for martial arts.

RE: Bullying
The last thing you do is retaliate. It just escalates the situation and more often than not the instigator isn't caught, but the retaliator is. I agree with self defence and being prepared to defend yourself if the need arises. If you are attacked you certainly have the right to defend yourself.

There is only one way to stop bullying and that's to report it. The bully will never report it and the victim won't either. The ones that have to report it are the witnesses. Of course, the school has to follow up and actually do something.

RE: Bullying
I think that most bullies are cowards who pick on people who are smaller and weaker than they are. For example, Will Smith is someone who has outed himself as a bully by slapping Chris Rock in the face for making a harmless joke about Will Smith's wife. Will Smith is bigger and probably stronger than Chris Rock. But if the joke had been made by The Rock instead of Chris Rock, would Will Smith have slapped him in the face? I don't think so.

RE: Bullying
All great comments from the members of the forum. I have little to add but to say bullying must be reported immediately to the school.
