All it will do is the same thing it has done everywhere else. Parents will still spank but will have to be careful nobody finds out. It just turns loving parents into minor criminals.

Smacking (if it happens at all these days in UK) is very taboo anyway. So if parents do smack; they’re going to have to be extremely careful

Interesting to see this in Wales, but it is probably going to be awhile before one sees it in England.

Personally, I think it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the UK announces a ban.

The unknown factor, is how many UK parents actually spank. I personally know of four families who do not spare the rod, and I live in a small village! For all we know, the percentage could be as high as ten percent. The crucial factor are the children. Will they broadcast their punishments to friends and teachers?

I personally don’t know anyone but you’re absolutely right. No way of knowing in 2022 more than ever and no parent would openly admit it

I think Nancy is 100% spot-on! Parents will still spank. I doubt that any or many parents will just think, "okay, I won't spank anymore", when they know in their heart that it is the best way to discipline their children. They will just be much more careful, and as Nancy said, it turns very loving parents into criminals, which is so not right...

I have never understood what they are trying to achieve with such laws. It is already illegal to abuse a child and this new law won't prevent abusive parents (who would already have been breaking the law) from abusing their children. Not only does it make loving parents into minor criminals, but it also protects no one. Also, supposing someone is reported for spanking their kids. What is to be done? Taking the child into care to protect them from further spankings? That sounds like it would be far more traumatic an experience than being spanked.
