Discipline in sport
I am an old man now, but when I was very much younger and was a teacher, I used to coach sports at school.

Back then, it was common for sports teachers to use corporal punishment, as other teachers did.

I would be interested to know if others have experience of sports teachers or coaches who spanked.

Father of 2 daughters. Grandfather of 5. Retired teacher.

The PE teacher was the teacher that all the school children feared the most . He was famous in the school for swinging the cane the hardest and taking no attitude from school children . He was tall and build like a rugby player. Most of the female teachers did send you to him for your spankings. Not doing homework or braking the school rules .

I heard stories that at Michaelhouse, boys were caned for being insufficiently aggressive on the Rugby field. I do not know the veracity.

I remember at my prep a boy getting one swat of the slipper (a large, well worn gym shoe) over wet bathing trunks at a swimming pool.

He sobbed.

Why would he want to have done that, Olivia?

I certainly never punished for lack of aggression, but I did punish for lack of effort.

I have just started coaching the under 14 swimming squad and there are definitely a few butts that could do with a smack lol. Jokes. If they misbehave we normally just push them harder, do press ups, or make them sit on the edge of the pool and watch practice.

I suppose for not doing exactly what he required of them. Seemed harsh though. I don’t really think he should be able to spank them.
